A whole lot of time. She already hadd a heavy work load. This school was certainly not a joke when it came to academics. She never understood homework. Was it to keep the student thinking about the topic in their every day life? Or was it just an excuse for a students grade to go lower than desired? Jane made very good grades. One of her assignments for english class was to find a book in the library that related to you, and analyze the first chapter. Why? She had no idea. Maybe the teacher wanted to know how their taste in books were. Jane wasn't a routine reader. She read sometimes, and most times she didnt. When she did read they were mostly romance novels. Things you only read about or saw in the movies.
She looked and browsed at the shelves. Taking a book with an interesting cover from the shelf she opened it up and read the first sentence. She didnt like it much at all. She was about to place the book back and saw a familiar face on the other side. Was it Nate? Like, her ex boyfriend nate. It was still weird calling him an ex boyfriend. They broke up not to long ago. The relationship just wasnt getting anywhere or anything. It was a mutual break up, so they still stayed friends. It was odd, seemed like ever since they broke up she was more interested in him than before. The wonders, the irony, this was all bad. She had to play it cool. Like she didnt care. She wondered which girls were crushing on him already. It wasnt hard, Nate was a looker. He also had a beautiful accent.
She decided to talk to him. She placed the book back and walked down the other aisle where she had spotted him, she cleared her throat to grasp his attention, a small smile on her face. "Nate, you know you dont read. Why are you in here?" she joked with im, taking a few steps up to him. She was pretty goofy with him, and comfortable to be her normal goofy and random self. She didn't feel the need to put on an act. "It's great seeing you." she said.

Filled with books, dust, some more books, book-lovers and the occasional visitor. Nate himself was far from a regular, but, it just so happened that he showed up there, more often than not due to some assignment given by one of the teachers. They just loved making students waste their free-time looking for books, reading books, and writing about books. It was funny, except that it wasn't.
With a sigh he crocuhed down to get a clearer view of the books on the lowest shelf, but, to no avail. That damn history-book really didn't want to be found. He got back up on his feet and kept looking, humming slightly to himself as he did so, until a voice interrupted him. A beautiful, wonderful voice. He quickly turned his head, a big smile taking place on his lips as he saw her. Wow, she looks beautiful, he thought, not that that surprised him. She always did. He was about to take a step closer to her, but in the last second he was reminded of something. The smile on his lips faltered slightly. They weren't together anymore. He really, really shouldn't step closer and kiss her, even though he really, really wanted to.
"Ah, you got me!" Of course she does. "I, uh, I've a history assignment. That required a book. Obviously."
He cleared his throat a bit, trying to keep his thoughts in check. She could read his mind, after all. Literally hear his thoughts if she wanted to. Or sometimes when she didn't want to.
"It's great seeing you too, Jane. How... how have you been?", he asked, genuienly curious. He hadn't seen her in a while, since the break-up. It made sense, but it was hard. Harder than making the decision to go seperate ways, even. "You look great, by the way", he added, as if his thoughts hadn't told her that already. Damn thoughts, spoiling everything.

Like, it wasn't a bad awkward, but it wasn't a good one either. Still, she had wanted to say hi to him so she went ahead and did so. She couldnt help but smile in response to his thought. Did she look good? Really? It was quite flattering, but Jane wasnt going to comment on it. It was already enough invasion of privacy that she could hear all his thoughts in there, so why would she tease him about it? Besides, he wasnt just a friend, wait, wait...no! He was just a friend. Yeah, so she could tease him about this? Wait, no! Because he was saying she looked good and they had a history. So, yeah, this was very complicated. But Jane just kept a smile on her face, not expressing her thoughts on it. He had looked good too. He always did. He was charming naturally. She loved the way he looked. She had never met a guy with the same facial structure as his. She loved his eyes the most, looking into them.
She laughed at his response to her messing with him about having a book in his hands. She was only kidding, she knew Nate was an intelligent guy, "history?" she grinned, "that's all history is anyways, a bunch of books that guys wrote down. a bunch of recorded words... eh, me and history dont get along too much as you see." she said, she didnt believe the history books. Anyone could change an event recorded in a book. She was skeptical about it, but studied it of course for her class.
It had been a while since the two saw each other. The last time they say each other, it was well, not so nice. They had broke up. "I've been great." she replied. The number two rule in girl code is to not let your ex think you've been bad without him. The first rule was to not steal your best friends boys of course. She swear she had that fiction imaginary book down. "Thanks, you do too." she replied. "It actually is really nice to see you." she smiled, it was actually heart warming. "How are your classes, the people in your classes?" the girls in your classes she thought.

He had ignored this particular assignment for days, in hope that he would wake up one morning and find it already done, by itself. But, of course he hadn't been that lucky. With less than 24 hours left until it was supposed to be finished, he'd been forced to give up and take matters into his own hands, like he'd been supposed to do several days ago when he'd been given the damn assignment.
So that kind of left him in a rush, and he really shouldn't spend his time doing anything other than studying. He had even promised himself to dedicate the up-coming hours to nothing else but concentrated, full-hearted reading and writing. But that was before Jane showed up. That changed things... like always.
He shrugged when asked about his classes... and the people. His mind drifted to a certain red-head in his math class that had started to ask questions, maybe a day or two after it had happened... but as he hadn't been in the mood to even casually flirt with her, her questions had soon ended. Well, after a few classes at least. News of a break-up usually spread fast, and theirs hadn't been an exception. "I can't complain. Haven't met anyone of interest, really..." He sighed, weighing his words. Deciding to simply go for it, he added, "until now."
Why is this so difficult? He glanced at her, wondering if he'd crossed some invisible line. He wasn't good at break-ups. And obviously, he was even worse at post-break-up conversations.
"Anyway", he went on quickly, as if that could erase the two small words that he probably shouldn't have added no matter how true they were, and turned slightly toward the shelf. He could talk and find the book at the same time; maybe that would case him not to say anything outrageously stupid. "What horrible assignment has lured you to this dusty place?" He picked out a book, but, as it was the wrong one, he put it back and kept on scanning the shelves.

She was sort of different, when she got a assignment the first thing she would do was finish it. She was a first minute type of student while others were last minute students. " You put the pro in procrastination, nate." she teased him, hitting his arm lightly, then slipping her hand back in her back pocket. She really did miss Nate. If he could read her mind he'd know that. She had a feeling there was some mixed emotions between the two. They had dated for a good amount of time, and then just called it quits. Why? Who knows, they had their small little arguments and all, but so? What couple didnt. Maybe they were just questioning if they were rigt for each other? Maybe the relationship wasnt getting anywhere? From Jane's perspective she thought Nate made an amazing boyfriend. He was faithful to her despite the fact she wasnt pleasing him, sexually. Jane had never really, well, done that before. She thought about it, but she just wanted to be in love. Like, she had seen so many of her friends heart broken because of that. It was just a fear of hers. She couldnt explain it. Maybe she was afraid that he'd get bored with her? Or he was already bored of her? So they both just called it quits. She just didnt know.
It was a relief that he said that he hadn't met anyone that interested him. It was a big relief. She hadn't met anyone that interested her either. She sort of smiled when he said that, bigger than she had before, but she returned the big smile to a smaller one. She didnt need him thinking that she still liked him. Though, she sort of did. I guess when you let go of something you realize what you have. When Nate said 'until now' a small smirk popped on her face. She had caught that and it stayed in her head.til now? Does that mean...like, he's happy i'm here..wait, or..or is he talking about someone else..wait no, he's talking about me right. she thought. When he changed the subject she looked at him fiddling with the books. "I need to pick a book to read, and analyze, write a paper on..all that stuff." she told him, looking him over as he looked through the books. She was sure he wouldnt see that. He looked extra charming today.
"you look nice,..i mean charming, you know.." she said, running a hand through her hair. "like usual, uh-" she said. "let me help you find this history book or whatever." she said turning to look at the shelves. Having no idea what she was looking for but he didnt need him lingering on that compliment. All this talk about homework made her chuckle a little, "Ha, this is ironic. Worrying about school work together...I remember, when I had an assignment I'd rush through it just to see you that night." she grinned, glancing at the books then back at him. She rushed everything so she could spend time with him.

For different reasons, but still... it was pretty weird. In a good-bad sort of way. Good, because it was great seeing her, and talking to her, and bad, because... it was different. Awkward. They were each other exes now, goddamnit. At friendly terms or not, it still wasn't the preferred setting.
But then again, they had thrown that out the window themselves, had they not? Not because of some other girl or guy, or a disrespectful friend. Nope, it -- this -- was their doing.
And that kind of sucked.
Despite all this, he found that his smile grew even brighter as she complimented how he looked. He just couldn't help it. Not that, nor his simple "I do my best". At least for you. He accepted the offered help with a nod, and kept looking.
Looking didn't mean talking was out of the picture, though. He chuckled slightly at what she admitted. "I didn't rush through, I ignored it completely in favor of spending every possible minute with you", he remembered out loud, shaking his head at the thought. "My grades will probably benefit greatly out of this." Even though it seems I don't.
"...ah-ha!", he shouted out seconds later, and a passing librarin hushed him with a very stinky-eyed glare. "Ah-ha", he repeated in a hushed voice, picking out a thick, quite heavy book. "It seems your help was all I needed to find this blasted thing. Although now that I've found it, I really wish I hadn't."
He paused, and then continued in a still-hushed tone: "I assume it is only right that I help you find your book, as well?"

She stood and smiled when he said that he tried. In times like this she was glad she could read minds. It was nice to know she was still missed in a way. She was just dreading how she and nate would potentially be in the future. Both of them moving on and him thinking lovely thoughts about some other girl. She sort of longed to be the only girl on his mind, but she understood that she would not be. What if they had just stayed together longer? Would the spark had returned to their relationship? Was the spar even truly lost? She felt a spark now, a connection, when you lost something you usually wanted it more. It was something she had learned growing up but never considered it when agreeing to break things off with him.
She glanced at the dimple on the side of his face. She had loved that about him, right next to his lovely eyes. His height was nice as well. She laughed when he said he just didnt do his homework on nights they wanted to see each other. "What? Really?" she asked, taking a break from looking for this book and laughing. "Man, was I that much of a bad influence?" she teased him, noticing his body language and over-hearing something he didnt say out loud. Dang it! Why couldnt she stay out of his head...why couldnt he stay out of hers? Although he couldnt read into minds like her, he still was always on her mind for the most part. This was hard for her to. "Nate..." she started, about to confess something and bit down on her bottom lip. All that was interrupted once he had found the book, she shook the thought of confessing how much she had missed him off. What was the point.
She glanced over at the librarian who had told him to hush, she laughed quietly. "Seems like I wasnt much help." she noted. When he repeated it again in a lower tone she playfully hit his shoulder, "you're such a dork." she told him. "Help? I didnt do anything at all, really.." she said, "look at you trying to give me some credit, your such a gentlemen."she teased. She grinned, "Sure, it can be any book really, just a novel, about anything, but- I'm not a faithful reader, so I have no idea what I'm looking for really...Aren't I so precise?" she teased him glancing back at the books.

At times, though, he felt as if he wouldn't mind being one. Just for a minute or two, at certain times, so that he could know what was going on in a certain person's head. So that he could know if it was anything like what was going on in his own head, which is something he wouldn't want to inflict on his worst enemy. He would probably be the worst telepath in history, reply to what people thought instead of what they said and - it wouldn't be pretty.
Still. It could be useful, in times like these.
"Well, I think we have an hour or two before the library closes - plenty of time to search for the perfect book." He smiled broadly at her. Five minutes ago he would've done almost anything to get out of there; now, he really wanted to stay. Yep, a complete turn of events. Or mindset. Or you know. Something.
After all, book-dust was nothing if it meant getting to spend some time with someone you'd missed, even if all steps taken had to be careful. Throwing a quick look over his shoulder to see that the librarian was gone, he placed his own finding underneath one arm, and made a gesture with the other, initiating a walk. "I guess it would be smart of us to head to the fiction-area of this place..."
"However, I'm completely clueless as to how to find anything here", he admitted, "but I'm almost as excellent company as you, so, consider me your not that helpful entertainment."
Yes, he was being silly; but he felt he could be, with Jane, despite the awkwardness. And God, had he missed this.

An hour or two? "I knew it! I knew it! I knew it.." she said, pointing at him a bit. "You know this place front to back you little nerd." she said nudging him in his arms lightly with her elbow. She always played around with him like that. "2 hours?" she grinned, "you wouldn't mind..you know...staying here with me to look, really? Like dont feel obligated I wasnt much help anyways, and I know you've got work to do.." she started. She didnt want to distract him from his work and whatnot. If he had homework she wanted him to do it, and to keep his grades up so he can conquer things in life and all that junk.
Jane was happy that she was here with Nate. Even if it was in the library out of all places and not the theater, the beach, and ice skating rink..something much more enjoyable. Yeah, whatever, she was just happy to be looking at him. Not at one of those old pictures of him and her that she'd always have to toss in the drawer. She had a lot of pictures of them in her room, nice pictures, but she had tossed them in the drawer. t hurt to look at them, but she always ended up taking them out and staring at them. She liked taking pictures with people she knew because she enjoyed making scrap books and whatnot.
She nodded when he said they needed to go to the nonfiction place. She followed him over there, tempted to take his hand, but she shoved it in her pocket instead. She laughed at his comment. Not so helpful entertainment? Oh, she was gonna have fun for this. She looked through the books on the shelves. Eww, all the cover pages on the book looked boring. Jane liked something that drew her in..You know the old saying: Dont judge a book by its cover. Well, Jane didnt listen to it much. "Mk, mr. entertainment. I'm in the mood for...a song." she said glancing at him with a small smirk on her face. She was going to have fun with this.

Oh shit. What had he gotten himself into? Nate wasn't a singer. If anything, he was a guitarist - and if that position was filled, he had some basic piano-playing skills as well. (But, like, really basic.) Singing, however, wasn't exactly his thing. So, when Jane told him she wanted a song, he wasn't over the moon with joy. "Uh... a song?", he repeated dumbly. Maybe he had misheard her -- but, even as he hoped he had, he knew he hadn't. Just seconds after his dumb question, he let out a sigh, scratching his neck. Well, obviously he was going to do it anyway. He'd said he would keep her entertained, right? And while there were other ways (ways not appropriate, not since they broke up... and since they're in the library) to entertain, this was what she had requested. A song. And he wasn't one to not do what she asked of him... he never had been. "Alright, I will give you your song", he said, throwing his hands up in defeat. "Do you have any suggestions, or should I just choose a song and go for it? Quietly, of course. That librarian's got her eye on me... and not in a good way." He smiled at her, a bit teasingly, and throwing a quick look at the books... the books they should be paying attention to, instead of talking and singing. Hopefully there wouldn't be any dancing. He wouldn't be able to take that. But, truth be told, he did enjoy himself, despite the foreboding sense that he soon would have to sing. He just, really enjoyed Jane's company. It's easy to have fun around her... at least for him. And he'd missed it, just as much as he'd missed her. [Hey! Really sorry that it took so long; I've had no time to sit down and write... I'll try to make time in the future though! ] [STYLE=BACKGROUND-IMAGE: url(http://i.imgur.com/VWiW7.png); WIDTH:430PX; HEIGHT:15PX; BORDER-BOTTOM: SOLID #616150 5PX; OVERFLOW: AUTO;][/STYLE]

She could tell he was nervous about it, but he was going to do it. She grinned, he was such a little geek. That wasn't a bad thing, though. She was one too. They could be perfectly little happy geeks when they were around one another and no one would ever have the right to judge. She thought it was perfect. Well, their awkward friendship was somewhat perfect when it came to their levels of comfort with one another. "awww, isn't that kind of you." she said once he said that he would go on and do it. She laughed softly at what he said about the librarian. i would hope not she thought in her head.
Jane couldnt wait for this! She just wanted to hear him already. Jane enjoyed music. Jane was actually a singer herself, not to many people knew that besides maybe nate and marg. It was her second talent. Before a singer she was a dancer. She did a variety of different dances. She felt like it was just the best way for one to artistically express themselves. It was a perfect form of art and everything. She glanced at him as she waited, he was thinking about it too much. She laughed a little, putting down a boring book she had just picked up and turned to face him. She grabbed his hand and squeezed it lightly. "calm down, why so serious?" she joked with him, but she always had to cite lines from her favorite movies, even if it had nothing to do with what she said prior to it.
"here, we'll do one together.." she said. "quietly, so she wont shush us anymore..just join in." she said referring to the librarian. Jane was pretty sure he knew this song. It brought back a lot of childhood memories. If not, then...well, dang, that would amaze her. Yes, Jane as corny as she was started singing in her low sweet tone, "I love you, you love me..were a happy family.." she started, shaking her head a little. Now she was embarrassed because she barely recognized the words to the barney song. love. That wasnt the best song choice at the moment. She had let go of his hand too, she just recognized she had still been holding it. "Eh, nevermind...i'm bad at picking songs."
OOC no worries! I have finals so i know the feeling haha

[/style][style= background-image: url(http://i.imgur.com/IyEuo.png); border: solid #b9b9b9 15px; width: 400px; height: 200px;] all I want to do / is be more like me / and be less like you If it had been anyone other than Jane requesting him to sing he would've said no without a second of hesitation. It wasn't that easy now. And once he agreed to it, there were no backing out. So, to sum it up, there he stood, preparing to sing, in the library, in front of his ex. It was, overall, a quite odd situation. If it was possible to feel nervous and at ease at the same time, well, then that's exactly how he was feeling.
And that feeling only grew stronger when she squeezed his hand; he didn't think much about that, only to recognise it as comforting... and at the same time nerve-wracking. When she suggested that they'd sing together, well, that was pure relief. "Right", he said, lowering his voice to a whisper, and nodded once.
Thankfully, she chose the song, too. Her... choice did surprise him, however - yes, he did recognise it, it had just been... unexpected. When she pulled her hand away, however, the distance between them increasing... his feelings may be a bit all over the place at the moment, but that didn't stop him from thinking it was bad.
"Jane, no, come on", he said quickly, moving a bit closer - bad idea? Good idea? Well, don't ask him, he doesn't know! - and also reaching for her hand again... dropping it a few seconds later. "I promised you I would sing, did I not? Don't make me go back on my word." He smiled at her, and took a second or two to think, recollect the lyrics from some dusty corner in his head, and then continued where she left off.
"With a great big hug, and a kiss from you to me..." Okay, he must admit: not the greatest song to pick after a recent breakup. But he was a man of his word, so he cleared his throat, and continued on; "Won't you say you love me too?"
With a nod in her direction, he considered his three lines done, and that it was time she continued. He'd managed to keep his voice low enough not to attract more of the librarian's wrath, too. Anyone would agree this situation was strange enough without an angry librarian waiting to throw in her two cents.
