‘Bro? We need help, man. Dad’s got no cash, Cain got punted out of his job…I can’t do anything, and mom’s barely scraping by.’
His brother, Joseph, had said this when he’d called the other day. No problem, he’d replied. I’ll send money, soon. It had been an easy enough promise, one he’d intended to keep, even though he had long since promised himself that he would quite dealing and long since told himself that his scars were punishment for his nature. His family needed the dough, and fast. He’d been one of the main suppliers of money during his time in Atlanta and Castle, and now that he was gone, sure, there was one less mouth to feed, but one less guy to put meat on the table as well. Joseph wasn’t old enough, and he didn’t have a power to protect himself. Guilt was knowing on Rai, and he suddenly realized that he needed to get them something.
So he’d managed to smuggle some weed into school. It would get some money, especially for any newbie’s who had not yet experienced the drug or prices. In this school, it was easy to get a high price, because people wanted to bad to have a piece of paradise. Well, Rai had it right there, currently stuffed into his pocket. He’d made a call to a student a little while ago and had just made a meet up area for them. In the entrance hall, which was currently deserted. He waited calmly by the door and, if a teacher came by, he would just claim that he was coming back from winter break. No teacher actually took the sweet time to get to know Rai, not really. Most saw him as a waste of time because he didn’t want to learn about the system. He didn’t need a teacher to tell him how the world worked. He’d seen it in action since he was a kid.
A skittish boy walked down the hall and gave him a quick look. Rai put his thumb to his fingers and rubbed them together. You got the dough? It asked. He flashed the money before coming up to him and exchanging what they both wanted most. Rai quickly stuffed the cash into his pockets before waving the boy off. “Have fun,” he said in a bored voice before allowing the field between them to spark and causing the kid to yelp and run away.
Rai pushed up the sleeves to his hoody to show his scared arms, and then sighed. Ah, life was just to easy sometimes!

[/style][style= background-image: url(http://i.imgur.com/IyEuo.png); border: solid #b9b9b9 15px; width: 400px; height: 200px;] just because i'm wrong, doesn't mean i'm wrong What a wonderful break it had been. Xavier had come up with a whole new set of experiments for his Physics classes, even for the AP Physics kids to participate in. He got to spend time with his daughter, Jennifer, and had gone out on a date. Too bad he had to come back to the school. That's not an entirely true statement. He enjoyed teacher at this school; he had come here because he missed the feel of the classroom and had gotten along with kids around this age fairly well because his daughter was fourteen and what not. He walked into the back entrance of the school, since that's where his class was, and still had time to go walk around, making sure kids were staying out of trouble. Most of his physics kids had thought of him as a fatherly figure, since he was one afterall. He enjoyed his pick of physics kids. Not just the AP kids, but the regular ones as well. Usually he had the most trouble with the normal physics kids because they were either forced to take the class or they needed another science credit. He was surprised that those kids chose physics though; it wasn't an easy class.
He nodded his heads to a few teachers that had passed, and gave a small smile to the students that had waved to him, or even bothered to smile at him as well. He was considered the cool teacher. He had no idea why though. He was the hardest to understand, and probably one of the more egotistical teachers of the school. His superhuman intelligence was killer for some of the people that went here, but he didn't really care. However, on the way towards the entrance, he caught a kid running. He had simply asked what the fire was and he saw a bag in the child's hands. He had to be a freshman, sophomore at most. His eyes got all squinty like and confiscated the bag. He simply smelled the bag from the outside and didn't have to look at the contents to tell what it was. He sighed, told the kid to move along and not do this again or else it would be dire consequences. The kid looked scared enough and scurried along.
Unfortunately for him, Xavier knew exactly who was behind this. He walked a little more before coming to the oh so familiar boy. "Don't you know you can get in trouble doing this kind of stuff?" he asked the brown haired boy. Rai Black. Most teachers didn't care what kids did, as long as they didn't get caught, but Xavier wasn't that kind of a guy. He got closer to Rai, not wanting to make this conversation too, well, public, "Haven't we had this little run-in before? What is this? The third or fourth time I've caught you selling this junk to unsuspecting kids? How much did you rip that child off for?" He knew that Rai would just blow him off and try and smooth talk his way out of this, but it never worked. Rai probably just probably thought that Xavier had no idea what it was like for him and more crap. He had pulled the same things all the time. Honestly, it was getting old.

[/style][style= background-image: url(http://i.imgur.com/IyEuo.png); border: solid #b9b9b9 15px; width: 400px; height: 200px;] You can spend your whole life working for something just to have it taken away “Fuck,” he muttered under his breath as he saw a teacher coming by with a bag in his hand. Obvious enough, he hadn’t picked his market very well. Newbies paid a hell of a lot of cash, but they didn’t know how to play it cool. He didn’t exactly help it with the spark show, but he needed the kid to get out of his face before a teacher came by. Kids like that didn’t associate with kids like him unless they were…Well, doing what they had been doing. He wished that he could take that back and then just walk down the hallway with the kid. He probably didn’t even know how to smoke the stuff…Eh, stupid mistake. The teacher that was coming up wasn’t exactly a stranger to Rai Saithic Black. They’d had quite a few encounters before. He didn’t want to be a smart ass, but he really didn’t like this guy. Like all teachers, or all authority, they really didn’t give a shit about him as a person. Only about the fact that he was the reason the teacher was getting the next paycheck. Rai was a documented case, he supposed. Every teacher he’d ever gotten had been warned about him. He was trouble. A sweet talker, but trouble. Most of the time, sweet talking got him by. He didn’t like those teachers, but he didn’t hate them. Then, there were guys like Mr. Poynter. Oh, yes, he didn’t like guys like Mr. Poynter.
See, guys like Mr. Poynter didn’t give anything about his case. And that was okay with Rai, if only he’d accept the sweet ass kissing that Rai dished out upon being caught. But he didn’t. And he didn’t understand the stuff that Rai was going through, and he never would. He sighed and steadied himself for the lecture that would soon come. He was happy, however, to see that he wasn’t going to make this a public affair. Rai leaned on his left leg and waited. Yes, yes he did know he could get into trouble doing that. He wasn’t going to say that, as he assumed it was a rhetorical question. Licking his lips, Rai looked Mr. Poynter in the eyes.
“Good evening to you too Mr. Poynter! Did you have a good break?” he asked, his voice only slightly sarcastic. “I would say the second, but hey, it’s nice to see your face again! Friendly as ever! And I certainly didn’t rip off that child. He knew what he was getting himself into. The drug programming in these schools now a days? I mean, they teach very well!” he had kept himself calm and airy, sure of himself as he spoke, though his inside’s wrecked with turmoil. What if this was the last strike. He smiled and then tilted his head. ”But, then again, you can’t prove that was me. I’m just hear after my lovely break with dear old ma and pa.”
As much as Rai hated authority, he would never use his powers against them when they had the entire enclose on their side. He held in the need to let a few bolts fly.

[/style][style= background-image: url(http://i.imgur.com/IyEuo.png); border: solid #b9b9b9 15px; width: 400px; height: 200px;] just because i'm wrong, doesn't mean i'm wrong Xavier did not want to deal with Rai on the first damned day back at the school. He was all ready to go. Rai was just, one of those kids that didn't get it. He didn't think that anyone cared for him or anyone got his story. He sighed having to walk over to the boy. His eyes looked so innocent, yet his actions spoke differently. Xavier had read his file. His home life was hard. Well, he had just apparently packed his bags and left. He sighed. He hated getting the boy in trouble though. He knew what this punk sophomore thought of him though. Xavier was just another adult that didn't really care for him as a person. He took a deep breath before approaching the boy and talking to him. He, of course, was trying to act all innocent, saying hello and asked if he had a good break. Xavier nodded, "Yes I did Mr. Black. Yourself?" He figured that he could be somewhat nice to him, even though he was being sarcastic and he could hear it in the sophomore's voice.
He started to go on and on about how nice it was to see his face again. Then he mentioned not ripping off the child and said he knew what he was getting into. He said that the drug program taught very well. Xavier closed his eyes and took a deep breath before yelling at the boy. He put a hand on his shoulder and opened his eyes, "Look, lay off the drug deals please. I really think you're a good kid at heart." He really did care for the students here. Some were harder to crack than others though. Rai was just one of those kids that thought he had to be a bad ass to get by in life. He then said that he couldn't prove it was him and said he was here after his break with his mother and father. Xavier removed his hand and put both hands in his pockets. He needed to get through to this kid before he got into real trouble with a teacher that would actually do something.
"Rai. You do realize that this is technically the final strike right?" Maybe if he started it out with that, he might perk up and listen. "Look. I really don't want to get you in trouble. I think you're a bright kid, but falling down the wrong path." He got a little closer to him, "So get your head outta your ass and into your books." He backed up and looked at him seriously now. He could've gotten him in so much trouble right now. Plus, Xavier was a super genius and knew that Rai was the one who gave the kid the weed. Who was the principal going to believe? A kid that has gotten in trouble before? Or the superhuman intelligent teacher. Hopefully Rai would understand that Xavier did actually kind of care for the students here. He wasn't here for the paychecks. He was a medical doctor by the age of twenty-three. If he needed money badly, he wouldn't have gone to teaching; it didn't pay well. He enjoyed helping students, especially those that needed that extra kick in the ass to do well. Rai was that student to him.

[/style][style= background-image: url(http://i.imgur.com/IyEuo.png); border: solid #b9b9b9 15px; width: 400px; height: 200px;] You can spend your whole life working for something just to have it taken away Rai had to force himself to keep on a smile and not retort back. He held his tongue if only to make sure that he didn’t get himself into deeper waters. He didn’t need this, and he sure as heck didn’t need to be sent back home to his family with nothing to show for it. Joseph wasn’t old enough to help out and no person in their right mind would hire someone like Rai with a record of dealing in his school. Getting pushed out of a school like Grace? Everyone in his town had been happy when he’d gotten in, because any unnatural talent that he hadn’t displayed, smarts wise, didn’t seem to exist. If he got kicked out now, he was screwed. His entire family was screwed. And the thing that sucked about it most was that if he didn’t help out, then although he was in the clear, his family was not.
Smiling, he tilted his head and nodded. “Oh yes. A very good one indeed,” he stated, wishing that he could just skedaddle out of here. Feeling the edge of fear in his bones, he reminded himself that this teacher now had him on the high ledge. And Rai was on the wrong side. If Mr. Poynter so wanted to, he could push Rai off with a simple twitch of his fingers, and although that was how most authority worked, Rai was now slightly afraid of it. He had had to think on a dime before, in fact he had done it countless times, but doing that against Mr. Poynter was liking asking for a death wish. As much as Rai didn’t like him, the guy knew what he was doing. Rai felt as if he were being circled, taught like prey. He’d never admit it, but right now Rai felt as though he might run and never come back. He was scared. Dang, he was scared.
He thought he was a good kid at heart? Most did. His shoulders slumped slightly as he looked into his teachers eyes. He was getting to him, so Rai counted that as half a win. Still, he had to stay cool and collected if he were going to win at all. This was just a game, he told himself, and he could get out of it like any other game. It was life, and life was one of the easiest games to win at if you just knew the rules and how to bend them. He could impress girls, though not the one he wanted, and he could slide by most of the time. And then there were guys like this guy who blocked the cracks he used to slip by.
Rai felt his heart pound angrily and then took in a deep breath before nodded. He almost backed away when he blurted out, rather bluntly, “My families broke…My two brothers and sister need that cash, Mr. Poynter. They’re stuck if they don’t,” he wasn’t even sure where that came from, and as soon as he said it he knew it wasn’t part of the game. This wasn’t his game, and he didn’t have the winning hand, so why was he giving it up to a guy who could kick him out of the arena in a minute?

[/style][style= background-image: url(http://i.imgur.com/IyEuo.png); border: solid #b9b9b9 15px; width: 400px; height: 200px;] just because i'm wrong, doesn't mean i'm wrong Xavier could tell that the boy was trying to restrain himself. He just grinned back at him and wondered why he was such a terror around the school. He had seen Rai get out of trouble easily with other teachers, but how? It was probably the thing of Xavier was a super genius and could see through the bullshit. Either way, Rai wasn’t able to smooth talk his way through this one at least. The boy smiled and said that his break was a good one indeed. ”Well, I’m glad you enjoyed your break then.” So, Xavier knew that Rai knew the rules of the school about not using your powers and all, but Xavier knew when too far was, well, too far. He wasn’t about to go and poke the bear that could control lightning. He didn’t have to be a genius to figure that one out on his own. However, he saw the fear in the boy’s eyes. He knew that he had him in the grasp of his hand and could crush him. Even if the boy used his powers against him, he would still get in trouble for that as well. So, either way, he lost if he took the wrong turn.
The boy slumped over when Xavier mentioned him having a good heart. Could he even possibly be getting to the boy? Even just a little bit, he felt like this would be a win for him; even if he hadn’t won the war, yet, he would have counted this as a win. He didn’t want to get the boy expelled or whatever the school would do to him for selling drugs. Drugs and alcohol weren’t even allowed on the island, much less a school. ”Look. All I’m saying is, stop selling. I don’t want you to end up getting kicked out of the school.” Maybe Rai would maybe, just maybe, listen to him on this one? He was still sure that he wouldn’t listen most likely, but maybe a few more incidents like this one, and he would start listening to him. What Rai didn’t understand is Xavier had a heart. Even though he didn’t seem like it, he did. The man had a child of his own. A fourteen-year-old girl that went to the school. So, if a student got in trouble, he liked to treat it as if it was his own kid. Although, he couldn’t ground Rai or basically kill him for selling weed, but he could just as easily get him kicked out. But, he knew that this school was good for Rai and knew that he couldn’t get kicked out. The boy was only a sophomore.
Xavier was about to just leave it alone and walk away, but Rai started to speak. It took him off guard with what the boy had told him. His family. He had told him that his family was broke and his siblings needed the cash and they were stuck if they didn’t get any. Xavier looked the boy carefully over, five times. The eyes told the whole story. Either he was a very good liar, or he was telling the truth. But, by the distress in the boy’s voice, he could tell that he was being honest about this. He walked a little closer to him, to make sure that no one heard what this conversation was about. He took his glasses off and looked Rai straight in the eyes, ”Rai. I’m not sure what to say.” He knew it wasn’t going to make this situation all better, but he now felt the need to help the boy. He didn’t like giving out sympathy, but he had three siblings that needed cash. ”How much money do you need? I’m not giving you a hand out. I’m just saying I could perhaps help you out and you could come in and do something like clean my classroom or something until I feel like you’ve paid off your debt.” He wasn’t sure how Rai would take to this deal, but maybe he would think about it at least. ”I’m going to tell you something that I learned when I found out my wife was having an affair. Life’s a bitch; if it were easy, it’d be called a whore.” His little quotes and saying he told his students normally lightened the mood a bit. But that quote was kind of…well, true all around.

[/style][style= background-image: url(http://i.imgur.com/IyEuo.png); border: solid #b9b9b9 15px; width: 400px; height: 200px;] You can spend your whole life working for something just to have it taken away Rai wanted nothing more then to wipe that smug look off his face and prove to him that he was not going for his look. He wanted to punch him, take him out with lightening, or just smack talk him until he backed down. Sadly, it didn’t look like this would affect the man in front of him. His teacher was now in control of the puppet strings, and Rai was utterly out of control. He could try and give more lies, bluff through the bad cards, but he couldn’t find it in himself. It was too hard, and he was too tired to go on. He felt defeated, as if he had met his match, only that his match had every advantage against him. He didn’t have a fair play, and had no clue how to move forward. He was beat, he realized with a sort of dwelling sadness. He was beat, and he had no way to get out of beating. His heart heaved sadly when he realized this, and he looked down, nodding to the floor. Stuffing his hands into his pockets, Rai felt the lingering defeat in the air, and almost smirked. It felt good to at least have a match. Most games were too easy, and now that he had someone to actually wield a hand or sword against him, he at least felt better that he had a face to an otherwise unknown force. He still felt hatred, deep down, for Mr. Poynter. But somehow it wasn’t the same raw feeling he’d known before. It was less…there. More like a throbbing in his temple then a stinging agent that rang against his head.
Rai bit back a retort, and felt a sort of kindling anger come again. He wanted to snap back, ask him who the hell he was to be telling him what to do? But then he reminded himself that his future was in the teachers claws, and deep down he didn’t want to lose his way into the world. With Grace on the resume, he had almost a guarantee into life’s beauty. To outsiders, it was one of the most prestigious schools you could go to, and for a guy like Rai to make it? Ha! Most would pay to bet against it. Yet, here he was, and he wasn’t going to break out just because he had a disagreement, or a slight anger, for one of the teachers. He couldn’t risk it. “Right. It won’t happen again, Mr. Poynter….” he said, though even his words sounded like a bluff. They were losing their touch, and he wasn’t sure of himself! How odd! He had never been this…Bad at this game. He was stumbling. Biting his lip, Rai, looked up and tried to straighten his slumped composure, though it was hard. He had an unsure footing now, and he wasn’t okay with a way to proceed. He was lying through his teeth, because if he didn’t get anything to his family, they were screwed, and he couldn’t do that to them. You didn’t have a way of making any kind of cash on this island, not real money that a family can survive on, unless your dwelling on the inner most wants of teenagers. He wished he could explain that to Mr. Poynter, but it felt awkward to say.
Rai slumped and got ready to leave when his teacher turned around and faced him. He watched his face carefully, waiting for some retribution or angry remark. However, it didn’t come. Something in the teachers voice wasn’t…As angry as Rai had expected. Or angry at all. When he asked the question, Rai almost looked up and growled at him. He almost stated that he didn’t take sympathy packages. But when he stated that he would have Rai do work for it, he looked over his teacher with a sort of…Feeling. It wasn’t respect, because Rai didn’t feel respect for authority. But it was something close. “Enough to get by,” he whispered, stuffing his hands in his pockets again. “That’s not fair to you, sir.” Had he just called him sir? “But I’d walk into a volcano if you could help them,” he continued. He’d shocked himself by using the word sir, and was even more shocked by this man’s display of kindness. When he said his joke, Rai chuckled lightly but could help but feel how true it were.

[/style][style= background-image: url(http://i.imgur.com/IyEuo.png); border: solid #b9b9b9 15px; width: 400px; height: 200px;] just because i'm wrong, doesn't mean i'm wrong Xavier was good at dealing with situations with troublemaker kids. He should have been the vice-principal of the school if that's all he would have to do; deal with troublemakers. Then again, Xavier didn't exactly "deal" with kids in the way that the rest of the staff would agree to. Xavier liked giving kids chances. If he gave you more chances, well, that just meaned that he liked you more; that he felt like you would end up making something of yourself one day. Rai sold himself short. Xavier knew that he was a smart kid deep down, but he just refused to show it mostly. He felt like Rai probably hated him by now; like even more so than he did before. He just didn't want to show it because Xavier could get him in trouble with the flick of a wrist. He had realized that Rai was the kind of kid to play games with people; and normally ended up winning. Xavier always won games; literally and figurativley of course. However, Xavier tried to tone down the smarts against other opponents, but in situations like these, well, he would use ever ounce of his weel being to win.
Rai said that it wouldn't happen again with his voice dragging on like it was in pain or something. Xavier felt bad for the poor boy though, even though he had pulled that one every single time that they had gotten into this mess. The boy tried to stand up straighter when he looked up at him. Okay, the boy was for sure lying. His body movement told it all. Xavier silently sighed to himself and wondered if this boy was ever going to give it up. Probably not though. He looked like he wanted to tell him something though. Like something was eating him away slowly. "Look, I know that I'm no where near your favorite person in the world, but I'm more understanding than you make me out to believe." Maybe Rai could possibly take something from this conversation? Poynter knew that it was a long-shot, but he wasn't going to give up on this kid, not yet. Besides, he had a hard time with the phrase "give up" anyways. It just, wasn't in his vocabulary.
When Xavier told him that he would loan him money, Rai seemed to get hostile about it, but with his words of working it off, he seemed less tense. He knew that Rai wasn't the type of kid to take handouts, and he didn't blame him. Xavier didn't accept handouts either. It was one of those respect issues and what not. Then again, he knew that he had a high ego and didn't want it to get damaged by him. Rai said enough to get by. And then added that he'd walk into a volcano if he would help them out. If you heard that crack, it was Xavier's heart. He hated giving people empathy, but for those who needed it, well, he gave them his heart and all his help. He thought he had Rai chuckle slightly at his "words of wisdom" and grinned. "I won't make you walk into a volcano, so no worries there," he figured that maybe keeping up a joking feeling would keep the stress away, "All I would have you do is tidy up my room, maybe grade multiple choice papers." Xavier figured that he would probably have Rai also help him out with setting up expirements or something. He wouldn't make the work impossible, but he also didn't want Rai to think that he was "getting away" with getting money from him.

[/style][style= background-image: url(http://i.imgur.com/IyEuo.png); border: solid #b9b9b9 15px; width: 400px; height: 200px;] ‘spend your whole life workin’ for something just to have it taken away
Rai felt his own heart pounding. He expected retribution, an angry remark or perhaps a slap of detention. Or suspension. Or expulsion. Rai had to remind himself to tone it down. He wasn’t with a client who wasn’t willing to pay. He was with a guy who literally had his neck in a bind, but seemed to be loosening the noose. This wasn’t a game worth playing, and he was unsure if he would ever play it again. Was this what had gotten Cain off the ride? Was it a guy like this guy? Was it fear? Was it respect for those around him? Or was it simply because he couldn’t wiggle his way out of it and ended up throwing the game in? Cain had used to be like him, and maybe this would be the casting stone that turned him into the guy he knew as brother. He wondered if there was another guy out there like Mr. Poynter who had straightened Cain’s act. Was this really the final blow for him? Rai felt a slight tug of sadness if it was. Despite the trouble, this was a game he knew well and didn’t want to give up to easily. Yet, if it were a foot in the door…Maybe it was worth it.
Mr. Poynter’s words gave Rai and odd twinge and almost made him lose it. Feeling his lip curl, Rai held his tongue and nodded, pretending that he knew this was so and didn’t at all doubt it. He wanted to believe it, he really did, it was only that Rai had so long hated those who stood above him and had never even thought it was possible for someone who was above to offer help or kindness. While in Atlantic City, he was more than hated by the authority, and he more than hated authority in the town. Authority destroyed his father’s job, Cain had told him. When he learned how to sell, those around him warned him of the dangers that authority posed. These words still remained fresh in his mind. Authority was not good. They destroyed everything you built. Yet was it possible that they served some good? Some reasonable function in society? Mr. Poynter, despite his great annoyance in Rai’s life, seemed to at least care about Rai to a point. Or at least about his school life. Rai was still unsure, and mostly he wanted to wander around and explore why on earth he was helping him, but then there was the small thought that maybe he was doing it because he could. Or because he wanted to.
Rai watched his teacher carefully, his eyes despite. He didn’t like asking for help, but it was that or risk getting kicked out. He didn’t have a choice, unless he wanted his family to be royally screwed, and although he hated the thought of being in debt at all, even easily worked off debt, he realized quickly that it was this or nothing. No other teacher seemed to listen, and although he was sure he could get by one more time selling, he didn’t want to risk it. That one more time could be his last. He watched the teacher carefully, hoping he wouldn’t laugh and say ‘just kidding’ the moment he got his hopes up. “Thank you,” he said, grinning slightly while he looked down at the ground. He wondered remotely if Mr. Poynter had any clue what this would mean to him. “Hours of work, I’ll do it. In a moment. I swear,” he said, his eyes showing the desperation his mind felt. He wanted to believe that this teacher wasn’t faking him out, wasn’t pulling his rope only to lead him into dark waters.

While the principal sat back and just lazed around all day in his chair, waiting for something to happen or someone to bring him something along the lines of trouble. Xavier, on the other hand, cared about the future of tomorrow's society, especially with ones who had powers such as these children. They needed to be taught, not harmed. Most of these teachers just wanted these kids out of their hair; Xavier was one of those rare teachers that cared about his students, even those who didn't take his class really. Like Rai. He hadn't really seen him be interested in school things, and you didn't need physics to graduate, so why would he take it? Xavier understood why kids didn't want to do things that they didn't have to; however, most of it was out of sheer laziness. Hell, even he had taken the easy way out sometimes, however, all classes for him were easy and by now, everyone knew why. He didn't like to flaunt his smarts; actually that's a bloody lie. He enjoyed showing off most the time. However, when he was around people that he wasn't trying to be an ass too, he normally toned it down a few notches. Oh well. More joy for him.
Xavier's attention went back to Rai; he seemed almost relieved, happy might be a keyword as well. However, he seemed almost scared? It might have been a harsh word to use, but it was close enough. He was almost waiting for something; possibly for Xavier to retract his statement and walk away about this whole agreement they had planned out. Now, Xavier was quite the ass, but he could tell that Rai was in need of this. The boy said thank you and it kind of took him off guard. He had never gotten any kindness out of this boy before; only death glares for catching him in the act of doing dirty work. "You're welcome," he simply said back. Well, what else was he supposed to say after that? Rai mentioned that he would do hours of work. He swore. He had never seen Rai like this before. Usually he was about as much of a smart ass as him. Incincere. Cold hearted. Brutal. This had to mean a lot to the boy. He didn't seem to have much faith from the other teachers around the school.
Xavier looked around, making sure no one would over hear this. He wasn't sure if this was completely legal or not. "So, I think we should keep this between us. Just in case. I'm not sure if this is completely, well, in the matter of legal I should say." He didn't want to get Rai in trouble, but he also didn't want himself getting in trouble. Ever since his interview to get in to work at the school, the principal has been riding his ass. He had been quite, the uh, how do you say, a very sarcastic son of a bitch with him? However, the principal was not as witty as Xavier would have thought for being the principal for such, "gifted" children. Oh well. Gave Xavier more room for fun in his classes. He was able to do so much more than he would've been able to do in regular schools. He felt like he had a connection with the kids. Even with that in mind, some times his methods for teaching them could be quite weird or out there. The type of expirements he did with gravity for teaching first year physics students along with exploding things. Those were his favorite. Who wouldn't enjoy seeing things being blown to pieces though?

Rai felt himself breathe out a deep breath of relief when Mr. Poynter said those two words. Your welcome. It seemed as though those were the final words, words that were like the signing of a contract. He no longer had the worry of laughter at his situation, the worry of a quick withdrawal from the deal. He felt his heart stop racing, and his breath ease out slower and with a more secure sound. He felt himself calm down as the tension left his body, as he realized slowly that this was not a deal that would be detonated along with his arrival to the classroom and completion. At some point, he would feel suspicion again, mainly because of how he had been born and raised. He had learned young and early that deals could be terminated within a moment’s notice. He’d terminated millions of deals before. Don’t got the cash? Don’t get the goods. Get the cash beforehand, for sure, and then give the goods. He doubted it would with this way with his work for Mr. Poynter, but he was okay with it. He might feel suspicion at one point, but for the first time Rai felt something like trust. Or respect. It wasn’t exactly there, and Rai wasn’t sure if he’d ever trust or feel respect for authority. But it was something close, and he was sure that that had to count for something.
Rai had been on guard for the entire conversation, ready to scat if anyone walked around the corner. Not only for his sake, but for the teacher who was offering him a great amount of help. Or maybe more for habit. Being on guard was one of Rai’s talents, and so he’d been watching the entire time. Mr. Poynter seemed to be on edge, in a way, too. He realized that his ass would be in for it if any of this was seen, and Rai felt a bit of sympathy. He wished he could give back the stupid deed he’d done, though he still didn’t consider it stupid, so that this confrontation hadn’t happened. Yet, somehow he was kind of happy for it. Not the kind of happy he was when he watched Joseph play basketball or when he watched Rachel run around and be a kid, but the sort of happy that was relief. He was relieved that he didn’t have to worry about being caught or being ratted out by those younger, inexperienced ones. He was relieved that he didn’t have to find a way to explain the large amounts of cash he sent to his family. He was relieved that he now still had Grace on his application for jobs and schooling afterwards. He wasn’t the brightest kid, but he did believe that he could do something after all this shit was over with. Maybe an electrical engineer? He laughed at the thought.
Rai squinted slightly and shook his head. “Wouldn’t dream of mentioning it, Si-… Mr. Poynter,” he stated, and realized rather quickly that he had almost called him sir again. While he wanted to thank him, it was as if he couldn’t say it again. Sir was formal and authoritative. Right now, Rai didn’t want to think of his teacher as an authority figure. He was a helping hand who he’d help later. He was not a booming presence that might someday wreck him. He was just a fellow human. No “Sir”. Sir was a word he’d refuse to use, although Mr. Poynter had well earned it. “No one will hear a word from me,” he stated again, smiling gratefully. “Thanks,” he said one more time, a slight twinkle in his eyes.
