means there's no second chance
Have you ever been so happy that you were worried this was all a dream? Because that was definitely how she felt at the moment. Lucia had never remembered being this happy in her life, and that worried her a bit. Whenever she had been happy, something bad had happened to ruin it. It was a silly, unreasonable thought, she knew, but she couldn’t help it. She was so happy that she felt something had to go wrong to make it… normal again. It wasn’t that she wanted something bad to happen – she didn’t. But this was just so strange, so… abnormal that the blonde girl really didn’t know what to do, other than sit there and grin like a fool.
Lucia really didn’t know if she should count the school dance as a failure or a success. For one thing, she had been kissed by her worst enemy, Jared. The thought made her cringe. He had meant it as a joke, something not to be taken seriously, but Lucia had. She admitted to herself now that bursting into tears was probably a wee bit overdramatic, but she hadn’t thought so then. What was dramatic was her best friend Tony punching Jared in the nose. Tony! Punching someone! That simply didn’t happen. EVER. But the dance last night seemed to be an exception, and Tony had gone ahead and broke Jared’s nose! Lucia knew he felt bad about it now, though Jared had seemed to blow it off.
She felt a wee bit guilty knowing that it was because of her that Tony punched him. Lucia had vowed to try to be a bit nicer to Jared in the coming New Year. We’ll see how that works.
But that hadn’t been the worst – or best, depending on how you wanted to look at it – part of the dance. Lucia, who had been harboring that secret for some time now, had confessed her feelings towards her best guy friend! Lucia had been horrified at what she had done, and had totally been readying herself for a shut down. But instead, Tony indicated that he not only didn’t mind, but that he possibly had the same sort of feelings towards her. A part of her mind wondered why she didn’t catch onto that sooner, being the empath and all, but then again, she had never really been loved or in love. Brothers don’t count.
But all of those aforementioned things led up to the fact that Lucia was sitting on a bench in one of the many courtyards of the city, waiting for Tony to show up. Lucia couldn’t bring herself to think the huge “B” word, since all of this was way too new. But the blonde girl knew that she was definitely beaming like a fool as she waited, and Lucia couldn’t bring herself to care. She was not only excited to see him, but also excited to give him his present. Through her father’s connections, she had managed to get a couple of soccer game tickets that Tony had mentioned wanting to see but them being sold out. They had been pretty pricey, but that didn’t matter to her. She simply wanted to see him happy.
Plus, Lucia figured that if she saw the real thing, she would avoid popping more soccer balls. Hopefully.
Lucia glanced up at the clocktower nearby. She was incredibly early, like normal, and was glad it wasn’t snowing, though there was large amounts of the cold white stuff on the ground. The girl blew on her hands to keep them warm as she waited, eyes shining, for a certain someone to make his appearance.
