NATHANIAL JAMES O'CALLAGHAN JUNIOR 16 GASPARD ULLIEL
"'cause everything that you thought I would be is falling apart right in front of you ... "
"'cause everything that you thought I would be is falling apart right in front of you ... "
"Let's begin, shall we? Tell me about yourself. I want to know everything."
He chuckled despite himself. "Well, sir, I can't tell you everything, but I can give you the basics. The name's Nathanial James O'Callaghan. I was born on the twenty-fifth of November sixteen years ago, so I'm a Sagittarius, and also a junior, in case you hadn't figured that out. Also, to state the obvious, I'm a guy."
"All right. So you know the truth about this place. What exactly did we invite you to this school for?"
"Oh I don't know, maybe you were in need of more handsome young men?", he asked back, holding back a laugh. Wasn't the reason he was here clear already? He really didn't see the point in going on and on about it, but... he'd promised himself to behave. He owed it, to this tie - he tugged on it a bit, feeling as if it was choking him even though that was silly, because it wasn't - and also, to his father. But mostly the tie.
He sighed and leaned back in the chair. "You invited me here so that I could study in a place where I wouldn't scare the living hell out of anyone with my oh so blood-chilling ability to disappear and re-appear in a matter of seconds. I discovered it when I was ten; we had these folks over for dinner and I was really bored, and... yeah, I just wanted to go outside, and the next moment, I was. Just like that.
Of course I accidentally brought the chair with me, so uh... it wasn't exactly a perfect teleportation, but eh, I've come a long way since then. I haven't mastered teleporting others with me yet, and there's still the occasional mishap, but don't worry - on the whole, I'm stable, and I won't mass-murder everyone in a fit of teleporting... err, madness..." He paused. "Is that even possible?"
Another exhalation, followed by a shrug and a smile. "Anyway, that's about it."
"Oh yes. I see now why we would have invited you. Tell me please, a bit of background information. What is home life to you?"
"Are you trying to make me feel home-sick? Because I warn you, it might work, and then I'll just poof my way out of here, like that." He snapped his fingers with an easy laugh. "Nah, just kidding. To answer your question, home life to me is very, um, fancy. I grew up in this large, old, house, more like an estate really, in England, with a personal chef and maids and a mini-library and an actual ball-room..." He tilted his head to the side. "Oh yeah, and my father's there too. Not that you see him much, but you know how it is. We get along fine, yeah, most of the time - I'm not much like him... and my mother, uh, she's not around."
He looked away, biting his lip at the thought of his mother, and quickly continued on. "Yeah, I had it pretty easy growing up. I don't have any siblings, and neither did my father so, family's pretty small. I did have a cat, though. Sneaky little bastard liked to hide around corners and up on furniture and just scare the hell out of you. Sadistic, broke my arm because of him once." With a laugh he shook his head. "Ah, mister Frederick..."
After a few seconds he cleared his throat, remembering that the question wasn't about his cat. "That's, uh, really all I have to say about that."
"I see. You should fit right in. May I ask, what are your plans for outside of AGM?"
Oh, bloody... Had he accidentally teleported home? That seemed like a question his father would ask, from across the desk, with an expectant look, surrounded by all his... his... achievements. The thought made him flinch involuntarily, and he felt the need for a cigarette grow. He covered this sudden burst of anxiety with another, just slightly strained, smile.
"I don't know yet. I know, very disappointing, but, I change my mind constantly..." He trailed off, wondering if that would do. It was really all he had to offer.
"Huh. That's fine, actually. Uh... would you like to tell me about any hobbies or part-time jobs you have? It may be too difficult to continue once you're on the island."
Did smoking count as a hobby? Because he certainly did that a lot, even though he shouldn't. Mentioning it to the principal... probably wasn't a good idea either, ha. "I play the guitar", he elected to say instead, "and the piano, but, mostly the guitar. I guess I won't have any problems continuing with that, will I?"
"We're nearly finished now. But I'd like to know, how do you feel about AGM and super natural powers. I ask you be honest here."
"Well, I haven't been here for long, but the idea of AGM sounds fine to me in theory. I hopes it works in practice as well. Concerning powers... Honestly, I don't think it matters if you have a supernatural power or not. Having powers doesn't make me more likely to commit mass-murder or anything. Sure, I understand how it could be a shock at first, but we're all still human, and we deserve the same rights as anyone else." He laughed a bit. "Now that was very peace and love-ish of me, wasn't it?"
"Oh, I see. I have mixed feelings about it myself, but I know what I believe in. Well, great! I think we're finished now. I've gotten a real sense of who you are! Thanks so much for your time and we'll let you know. In the meantime, do you have any questions, comments or concerns?"
"I think I'm good", he replied with a smile. "And also, I think I'm gone."
And just like that, the chair that had been occupied by Nathanial O'Callaghan mere seconds before was once again empty.
