She had been worried since she had agreed to this trip, fretting over what possible things that could go wrong with her going to the mall. She was completely inept in the way of making living, breathing friends. At least with the dead she didn’t have to worry about getting a bad reputation or saying the wrong thing; most of the time the spirits were just happy to have someone to listen to. Claudia Valkyrie was not someone who frequented the mall. She was not someone who went tp hang out with girls her age and shop and gossip. She was the kind of girl who shut herself away. The kind of girl everyone passed in the halls but had no desire to befriend. The girl with the golden blond hair and the giant eyes. The girl with butterflies drawn on her wrists and a habit of talking to herself. The mortician’s daughter. Meek and shy and awkward and strange.
Nervous but excited. It was an odd combination that her stomach wasn’t enjoying. Breakfast had been forced down, her insides doing a dance that she couldn’t decide was eager or anxious. She had changed her outfit about a dozen times to make sure it was something suitable for the occasions. Nothing too flashy, but nothing too casual. Nothing too eye catching or attention drawing. She had finally settled for neutral tones; a cotton pleated dress with a dark bow belt and tights of a similar shade. Two necklaces, one of them her token cameo, and a scarf of the same shade as the dress hung around her neck and a wool beret kept her hair off of her face. Military boots, her ring, the freshly drawn butterflies on her wrists, and a bit of lip gloss. That’s it, no more changing. This was it. This was what she was going in.
Now it was a matter of finding Lucia, the walk to the mall taking longer than expected due to unexpected distractions along the way. The girl could only hope that Lucia hadn’t gotten mad and left. Having agreed to meet in front of one of the stores, that was Claudia’s first stop. Don’t pass Go. Don’t collect two hundred dollars. Just go straight to her destination. Lucia wasn’t outside but she was easily spotted perusing, which Claudia couldn’t blame her for. The new potential friend had probably gotten tired of simply standing there. “Sorry I’m so late,”
came her greeting as she approached, voice small and soft and filled with her fear of rejection. “I got distracted on the way here, I’m sorry.” [/div] tag: lucia. words: 450 wearing: this. notes: none.

For one thing, she really wasn’t the girly-girl type of girl. It wasn’t that she didn’t like clothing, or make-up, or something like that. Because she was, after all, a somewhat normal teenage girl. But for one thing, Lucia hated spending money. Sure, she had lots of it. Her father was fairly wealthy, and every month, money was deposited into her account. She hadn’t really touched it since she got here, other than a few random withdrawals. Lucia disliked spending money, since she could be putting it to better use. Doing what, she had no idea, but still.
That and it was always hard for her going to crowded places. When there were lots of people, emotions surrounded them. And too many emotions made her sick. When she had been younger, going into places like restaurants, schools, and even playgrounds would often give her headaches. Her father never understood why she hated going outside, why she rarely ever had friends. It was probably because of this that she was so close to her older brother, since he was one of the only people she could stand to be around. It really sucked sometimes.
But today was different. The blonde girl was actually excited to go shopping. Because today she was dragging a rather new friend – yes, friend, something she was still getting use to! – shopping. Claudia was a rather odd sort of girl, but she wasn’t going to knock against that at all. After all, Lucia knew that she was an odd ball, and she was damn proud of it. But she had decided that she had to drag Claudia shopping, whether she wanted to or not. Lucia had gotten to the mall ridiculously early, she was so excited. She was browsing in one of the shops when she heard a familiar voice call out to her.
Lucia turned and a smile lighting up her green eyes. ”Hey, Claudia! Don’t worry about it; I’m usually the one who’s late.” The golden haired girl said, shaking her head as she looked over the other blonde girl. ”You look really pretty, Claudia. And there is no reason to be so nervous, I’m not going to bite, and the mall won’t eat you.” She added, noting the emotion with a smile.

She had been worried since Nearly everything Claudia owned she bought online, disliking the hassle of having to go into busy stores. The only time she had really gone to any busy places was to the square to read with Edgar as everyone else got their fortunes told. It was just too much for her. Shopping was exhausting. Going to places like malls was even more exhausting. But she wanted to make friends. She wanted to improve her social skills. She wanted to get to know her peers and have people with a pulse that she could talk to. Hopefully some time soon she would be able to tell Edgar that she was going to go hang out with a few students before her Special Ability Class. The look on his face was something she would no doubt cherish. There was no doubt in Claudia’s mind that he would be proud of her. Curious about said friends no doubt, but proud never the less. He had every right to be curious though. Most of the people she had tried to befriend had done her wrong. He was just looking out for her and she was grateful of that.
The girl could only hope that Lucia wouldn’t be cross about Claudia’s tardiness. The girl was always on the look out for someone other-worldly. Someone deceased. They were here on the island, she knew that they were. She could feel them. But she wouldn’t see them and if she couldn’t see them she couldn’t talk to them. It made her Special Ability Classes rather boring, consisting of her attempting to call a spirit and failing and just sitting there wallowing in shame at how weak she was. But today wasn’t about her insecurities. Today was about creating a friendship. At least hopefully creating one. Think positive, Claudia. You can do this!
Finally having approached Lucia her mix of emotions was still quite present, but she was trying her best to just shove it aside. She hoped it wasn’t bothering Lucia at all, familiar with the other’s power. She paid a lot attention to conversations in the hallways. She liked knowing what everyone’s powers were. “Thank you,”
she breathed, color instantly coming to her cheeks as she looked down at herself. Claudia was to not used to getting compliments. It was so foreign to her and she didn’t know what to do with these confident feelings. She was once again reminded that her emotions were probably bothering Lucia and gave herself a mental shake of her head. “I love your skirt, it’s so cute,” she spoke with more confidence, starting to move her gaze around the store. “I know, I was just worried you’d be upset with me or something. I don’t know.” She really didn’t and just distracted herself with sifting through a wrack of shirts. Something to calm her mind down. “I don’t really need anything in particular so you can just drag me to whatever stores you wish.” She gave Lucia a smile, her nerves finally starting to calm down.
