MARGARET ANNA HIRSCH JUNIOR 16 EMILY DIDONATO
" red hot like firetrucks ... "
" red hot like firetrucks ... "
"Let's begin, shall we? Tell me about yourself. I want to know everything."
Margaret was a little hesitant to spill all about herself. I mean who wouldn't be? Anyone with superhuman powers knows for a fact that not everyone can be trusted. But Mother assured her that these were good people. People who wanted to help her and to protect her. Of course, Margaret was a little sceptical. She could take care of herself. But the school warned there were forces that only they could protect her from. So she began to tell all, in a stained, but casual tone, "Uh, I'm Margaret Anna Hirsch. I am sixteen. Born on March fourth and of German descent. Today, I'm here to enrol in the Junior grade level." The words had a little quiver, as she was shaking nervously. Was it really quite all right to tell this man her information?
"All right. So you know the truth about this place. What exactly did we invite you to this school for?"
Now the man was getting a bit annoying. Yes, she knew that he was the head of the school, but why was he so damn nosey? She sighed and rolled her eyes a bit. "I seem to be able to take control of other people's bodies. It's like I'm possessing them..." her voice trailed off as she was reminded of some chilly tales. "Uh, anyway. I'm pretty good at it already, I just have to fixate on it for a moment and I will be inside someone else's body. My body seems to go into a sleep state ... but when I'm in someone else's body, it's like they're there too and we're fighting for the reigns of the body." Her voice trailed off again, and she had forgotten the question.
However, after a second of flashbacks, she was back in the zone. "Some people are easier to control than others. Especially if they know I can do it and want me to do it. Others feel my presence and fight me."
"Oh yes. I see now why we would have invited you. Tell me please, a bit of background information. What is home life to you?"
Okay, now this guy was really annoying. She wanted to blurt out, "What's with all the questions?!" and stomp out of the office. But she knew she couldn't do that. She needed to get into this school. Life in Buffalo was just not exciting ... at all. "Oh, like I said, I'm of German descent. My grandparents immigrated here a while ago, and it was my dad who underwent genetic modification... he lived a short life. Anyway, I live just outside of Buffalo, New York. Life there is not exciting at all. We live in the 'burbs, see. It's bo-ring. With a capital B." She laughed softly, and found that she was rambling. She straightened up and continued.
"I have two younger siblings, a girl and a boy. They're twins." A large grin appeared on her face and she wiggled to fingers to emphasize two twins. The thought of them made her feel warm and fuzzy inside. "They're turning eleven next month. Our whole family is close, actually. My mother and I and the twins. Life was hard when Father died--he died seven years ago--but we coped and we're still going strong. If I enrol at AMG, then Mother can stop paying for my schooling and focus on the twins." Margaret looked down at her fingernails, nervously. This was a touchy subject that she didn't really get into with her peers. But she was desperate to get in the school and was willing to do anything.
"I see. You should fit right in. May I ask, what are your plans for outside of AGM?"
Margaret looked up from her fingernails and relaxed a bit. This subject she can handle. "I plan to be a doctor." she said, as a matter-of-fact statement to the man as she held her chin up high. A soft laughed escaped her, "I know it's a bit far fetched, but I want to help people. I might be able to take out some loans for the education, I'm sure of it." Her eyes began to grow stars at the thought. Opening up her own clinic was her dream, and AMG could help her. She knew that the school not only helped the able, but also provided connections so you can be reintegrated back into society. She needed those connections if she wants to aspire to become a doctor.
"Huh. That's fine, actually. Uh... would you like to tell me about any hobbies or part-time jobs you have? It may be too difficult to continue once you're on the island."
Panic swept through her. She knew that you're supposed to have lots of hobbies as a young adult, but with a tight budget, you can barely afford clothing. But the panic left her as quickly as it had come. "Hobbies ... I do some art, if that's what you mean. Pastels is what I'm best at ... but I'm sure I'll be able to continue on the island. They're quite inexpensive, so I suppose we're all right." she nodded. "And as for a job, I had one in Buffalo, working at a fast food restaurant, but I quit so I can enrol here. I know it might have been two early, but I decided to take the risk."
"We're nearly finished now. But I'd like to know, how do you feel about AGM and super natural powers. I ask you be honest here."
She began to feel a little hot in her seat. What exactly was here opinion? "Uhh, to be honest, I'm quite thankful for AMG. It's a sanctuary for kids like me, I think. I hear all of these conspiracies and I just think they're more reasons to enrol here. As far as supernatural powers go... I'm not so sure if they're so great. They seem to be causing a lot more trouble than their worth ... I mean, I don't really see anyone trying to help others with their power ..." her voice faded as she tried to compose what she wanted to say next, "But I suppose that's what AMG is doing. Teaching us how to use our powers so we don't hurt others." The words seem to come out on their own, and she was happy with the result. Hopefully the principal agrees with her to some degree.
"Oh, I see. I have mixed feelings about it myself, but I know what I believe in. Well, great! I think we're finished now. I've gotten a real sense of who you are! Thanks so much for your time and we'll let you know. In the meantime, do you have any questions, comments or concerns?"
"Er, nope! Thanks so much. I'll see you all soon."
