PETER FREDERIC GERALD SOPHOMORE 16 KYLE JAMMESON
"I'm as vain as I allow ... "
"I'm as vain as I allow ... "
"Let's begin, shall we? Tell me about yourself. I want to know everything."
Pepper tried to expel some of his unwanted, excessive energy by fidgeting. Hopefully the principal wouldn't notice... it might be interpreted as nervousness. Truth to be told, Pepper was not nervous at all! He knew he would get into AMG, he could feel it in his bones. But he played along, knowing that if he didn't, then he wouldn't get in.
"I'm Peter Frederic Gerald... but most people call me Pepper. It's a funny story really. When we were young, my sister didn't know how to say my name. So instead of Peter, it was Pepper." he found himself rambling and tried to snap himself back onto the task at hand, "Anyway, I am sixteen years old, born on July fifteen. That would make me a sophomore here. I come from the glorious Colorado area, where I was born."
"All right. So you know the truth about this place. What exactly did we invite you to this school for?"
A smile appeared on Pepper's face. With all this energy, it was hard to keep his enthusiasm in check! He chucked a bit, "I can shift into a lion, silly! I'm surprised you don't know that!" he continued to laugh, only to figure out that he was being a little to enthusiastic. The principal was not having it. Pepper cleared his throat, "The process is quite painless, see. It first happened when I was say ... five or six years old? I was playing hid and seek with my cat, Tibby and I was so excited, that I shifted into a lion! Could you imagine that? A lion in the living room!" A sharp laugh escaped him, and he slapped his knee. "Man, those were the days. I can still remember my parents' face when they first saw me shift. Oh jeez." Pepper pretended to wipe away fake tears from under his eyes.
"And when I am a lion, I can still think like a human. It's just like I have a big, furry, heavy body, that's all. I can shift if I really concentrate on the idea. But I'm not perfect yet. I remember I had to be home schooled because I would randomly shift into a lion. Sometimes half way too, with just the mane and everything. I'm pretty good now, but I occasionally still shift." Pepper shrugged a bit. It's not like he could help it. That was what AMG was for right? To help him with the control and shit? Whatever, that's their job, not his.
"Oh yes. I see now why we would have invited you. Tell me please, a bit of background information. What is home life to you?"
"How can you be asking me of home, when I miss my cat so much!" he said dramatically, putting the back of his hand his forehead and letting out a long, exaggerated gasp. In a dead-serious tone and widened eyes, he continued. "My cat! Surly you know of him. Foster! I'm going to bring him if I get accepted. He's the love of my life, I swear. Well, other than my parents ... and my other cat Tibby, who I mentioned but is now deceased..." Pepper's voice trailed off.
"You know what? Yeah, I'll tell you about my family life." he said assertively, shoving his index finger down into the arm rest. "I have a mother and a father: Rebecca and Richard Gerald. I know what you're thinking: Rebecca and Richard! Ooh! They have both names that start with R! Seriously? That's not important right now. What's important right now is me and me talking about my family!" Pepper was always this dramatic. He cleared his throat in an interrupting way, as he saw the principal jot down a few notes. "I have a younger sister, Claire. She's a doll. Well, not a real doll, but she's just as pretty as one! And she's real! Anyway, she's only a few years younger than me... I'm sure you guys will invite her to AMG some day." His sister was capable of talking to the dead. Scary thought, yes. He didn't mention it though. In case AMG wasn't around in the future, he didn't want his sister's power floating around in the world.
"Our home is nice, you know. Hard wood floors, creaky doors. I love it a lot. It has this certain smell that reminds you of old homes. Well, it is an old home ... I just like it, all right!?" Pepper squeezed the arm rests and made a funny face as he waited for the principal to ask the next question. With a split decision, he decided to apologize for his wacky behaviour. "Uh, P? Mind if I call you that? P, I know this may sounds strange, but I am a bit of a wack job. My parents raised me to be crazy and express myself through my actions, not necessarily words. I think I may have taken it too seriously, but that's besides the point! Who I am is an energetic, charismatic person who loves to be dramatic and fierce!"
"I see. You should fit right in. May I ask, what are your plans for outside of AGM?"
Before the principal could finish the question, Pepper interrupted him, "A vet! I want to be a vet so so so so so so SO BAD. There is nothing more that I want than to work with cats the rest of my life. Doesn't even have to be big cats. It could be house cats. And if I can't be a vet, then a vet tech it is! I don't care." his words escaped him faster than he could make them up. It was true, he loved cats and all the special love and affection they offered.
"Huh. That's fine, actually. Uh... would you like to tell me about any hobbies or part-time jobs you have? It may be too difficult to continue once you're on the island."
Pepper pondered this for a moment. And another moment. He wasn't quite sure what to say. "... Uh. I volunteer at the cat center, if that's what you're asking. But other than that, I don't really have any hobbies or special talents or anything like that. So nope! I won't have any problems here!"
"We're nearly finished now. But I'd like to know, how do you feel about AGM and super natural powers. I ask you be honest here."
"Personally, I think AMG is doing a good job opening up a school. It's a great place for specials like me to meet other specials, and also a place where we can freely practice our powers without fear.... oh my gosh, I feel a movie scene montage coming up!" Pepper paused for a moment and looked up into the air blankly, as if truly expecting a montage. After a moment or two, he realized that it wasn't going to happen. With a dampened face, Pepper continued as if nothing happened. "But my power is kind of a nuisance. Other than in the face of danger, my power isn't helpful at all! Sure, I can scare off a bad guy, but I can't float myself a soda whenever I want. But whatever. I'm gifted right? Right, and I'm thankful for it, I swear."
"Oh, I see. I have mixed feelings about it myself, but I know what I believe in. Well, great! I think we're finished now. I've gotten a real sense of who you are! Thanks so much for your time and we'll let you know. In the meantime, do you have any questions, comments or concerns?"
"Nope, I'm all good. I've been studying AMG for a while now, and I know all the ins and outs. Just tell me when school starts!" Pepper stood up abruptly and shot his arm toward the principal for a shake of the hand.
